How density is calculated
Density = occurrences of the exact phrase × words in the phrase ÷ total words × 100. Common words (the, and, de, la…) are left out of the top lists but still count in the total. Matching ignores case and punctuation.
Use it to check coverage, not to hit a number
There's no ideal keyword density, and search engines don't reward repetition. The useful questions are: does the main topic appear in the title, the H1 and early in the text? Do the top phrases actually describe the page? If the top words are menu labels or cookie notices, the page may have little real content.
Frequently asked questions
What density should I aim for?
None in particular. Write naturally for the reader. A very high density (above a few percent) usually reads as repetitive and can look like keyword stuffing.
Does it understand synonyms?
No. It's an exact, deterministic count. Search engines understand synonyms and related terms, so don't repeat one phrase to please a counter.
